In the nation's classrooms, the Vietnam War often overshadows the Korean War in American history.
But a Johnson County veterans group wants to make sure that those who visit a memorial in south Overland Park never forget the almost 37,000 American soldiers who gave their lives in Korea.
They hope younger generations will recall the conflict that left more than 100,000 Americans wounded. They hope passersby will pay tribute to those who have never been found, and to the missing in action.

A local chapter of the National Korean War Veterans Association will dedicate the site at 11 a.m. Saturday. The public is invited to attend.
U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback is scheduled to speak. Mayor Ed Eilert is also scheduled to attend, and Frank Curtis, artistic director of the Fine Arts Institute in Leawood, will sing "The Star Spangled Banner."
The group plans to start fund raising in September for the memorial that is expected to cost between $300,000 and $500,000, said Jack Krumme, who leads the Korean War Veterans Memorial Committee of Johnson County, which is part of the local chapter.
